Labuan Bajo & Padar Island Pre-Wedding

Doing a Labuan Bajo & Padar Island pre-wedding photoshoot is an incredible experience, but it is also something that requires preparation. When Jocelyn and Desmond contacted me about their pre-wedding in Labuan Bajo, I explained that couples need to be ready physically, mentally, and financially.

Labuan Bajo is not a cheap location for a pre-wedding photoshoot, and the terrain can be quite challenging. However, the reward is absolutely worth it.

Preparing for a Pre-Wedding in Labuan Bajo

Many of the beautiful locations around Labuan Bajo require some hiking. In several islands you will need to walk up and down long stairways, and in some places there are no proper stairs at all.

Because of this, couples planning a Labuan Bajo pre-wedding photoshoot should wear comfortable shoes or sandals. Some locations can be a bit risky if you are not careful, especially when wearing unsuitable footwear.

Being prepared physically will make the experience much more enjoyable.

Pre-Wedding Permit in Komodo National Park

Recently, the local government introduced a regulation requiring couples to apply for a permit if they want to do a formal pre-wedding photoshoot in Labuan Bajo.

Most of these photoshoots take place inside Komodo National Park, which means additional regulations apply.

Here are some things couples should know:
-. Pre-wedding permit fee: around IDR 3,000,000 (~USD 200)
-. Local ranger fee: around IDR 500,000 – IDR 750,000
-. National park entrance fees are not included
-. Drone permit (optional): around IDR 2,000,000
The permit process itself can also be quite complicated. Couples or photographers must submit a proposal letter explaining the photoshoot concept and listing all equipment that will be used.
Although the official processing time is about one week, it is highly recommended to apply at least two weeks in advance.

For transportation, it is highly recommended to charter a private speedboat for the day, since the photoshoot usually starts early in the morning and continues until sunset. The cost is typically around IDR 9,000,000 – IDR 10,000,000 (about USD 600) per boat, and lunch is usually included.

PS: The prices mentioned above are based on 2025 rates, and they may change over time. It is recommended to always check for the most updated information and pricing before planning pre-wedding trip.

Casual Photoshoots Without Permit

If you plan to take photos in casual outfits rather than full pre-wedding gowns or suits, the permit requirement can sometimes be skipped. In that case, the photoshoot will be treated more like normal tourist photography. This option can make a Labuan Bajo pre-wedding much simpler and faster to organize.

Why Labuan Bajo & Komodo National Park Is Worth It

Even with the extra permits and preparation, Labuan Bajo, Padar Island, Pink Beach (Long Beach) and some other islands nearby, remains one of the most unique pre-wedding destinations in Indonesia. The exotic islands, dramatic landscapes, and crystal clear ocean create scenery that is truly difficult to find anywhere else. For couples who want something adventurous and unforgettable, a pre-wedding in Labuan Bajo is definitely worth considering.
