I love photographing Indian weddings in Bali.
There is just so much happening. Beautiful colours, incredible outfits, family traditions, music, dancing, laughter, and a lot of people having a very good time.
What I love most is that the celebration is not just one event. It can start with Mehndi and Haldi, continue with the music and performances of the Sangeet, then the Baraat, the main wedding ceremony, and finally the reception.
And somehow, the party keeps going!
Mehndi, Haldi & Sangeet
The smaller celebrations are full of beautiful details and fun moments. Mehndi is colourful and intimate, Haldi can get a little messy, and Sangeet is when things really start to heat up with music, performances and dancing. As a Bali wedding photographer, I love being in the middle of all of it, looking for the little moments between the big ones.
Baraat!
Then comes the Baraat. Music on, everyone dancing, the groom arriving, friends going completely crazy. It is basically a party moving towards the wedding!
This is definitely one of my favourite parts to photograph because you never quite know what is going to happen next.
And Then… More Party!
The ceremony itself is full of beautiful traditions, emotions and family moments. But once the reception starts, our cameras really gets a workout. We might take 2,000 to 3,000 photos during the ceremonies, but by the end of the party, that can easily become 7,000 or 8,000 photos in total. Yes, 8,000! Of course, with a good number of misfocused photos in there, too ^^.
But with Indian weddings, I honestly don’t want to miss anything. The dancing, the laughter, the crazy moves, the family performances, the hugs, the spontaneous moments… there is always another photo waiting to happen.
That is why I love Indian weddings in Bali so much. They are colourful, emotional, joyful and, most importantly, a lot of fun from beginning to end. As a Bali wedding photographer, my job is simply to stay close, keep moving and capture it all as naturally as possible.
